In early Sept. 2023, HMSA’s health management service vendor, Navvis, announced they experienced a data privacy event that compromised the personal and protected health information for former and current employees.

Navvis immediately launched an investigation to find the scope of the incident and sought involvement of authorities.

Reports said Navvis conducted a forensics review of all their systems in order to confirm the information that was stored and who it belonged to.

“Navvis is reviewing and enhancing our already robust policies and procedures related to data privacy to reduce the likelihood of a similar future event,” the company said in a release.

As Navvis began identifying the individuals who were impacted, the company began sending letters for notification.

“Protecting our members’ confidential information and privacy is of the utmost importance to us,” HMSA said in a statement. “We’re doing everything we can to fully understand the extent of this incident and to make sure our member information is secure.”

Individuals who were affected continue to be identified and are being given resources to safeguard their information, as well as free credit monitoring services.
