Gaston College continues to have lawsuits filed regarding data breach

pTwo more lawsuits filed against Gaston College allege that a data breach earlier this year exposed the personal information of more than 100000 peopleppThe lawsuits filed by Ludenia Archie and Shaquasia Eppes both former students state that in the Feb 21 cybersecurity incident in which a hacker accessed sensitive files and posted them online the names Social Security numbers and other private information of approximately 191000 people was exposed ppAfter learning of the hacking incident in February Gaston College waited around six months to inform the people affected by the breach ppNeither Archie nor Eppes could be reached for comment and Gaston College did not respond to a request for commentppThe lawsuits ask for an unspecified amount of damagesppThe first lawsuit was filed Sept 8 by Chasity Vernon of Lincolnton who received a letter Aug 26 from the college telling her that her name Social Security number drivers license number date of birth and student identification number had been compromised The notice offered Vernon a year of credit monitoringp
