p Now pp56pp Mon pp71pp Tue pp73ppPresident Joe Biden delivers remarks on his administrations actions on climate changeppby Tiffany LaneppLAS VEGAS KSNV Problems continue for Clark County School District families and staff about a week and a half after being notified of a cyber security incident that happened earlier this monthppSome parents say they received an email Wednesday with private information about their childrenppWhile they do not know if it is related to the cyber security incident involving CCSD they say it does include information they believe only the district would have access toppThat is so scary said Brandi Hecht who has three children in CCSD I definitely think something serious is going onppHecht has been on edge since she opened the email Wednesday morningppIt was titled CCSD leakppWarning me that my childrens information was released or hacked into and it had three PDF files said Hecht Each one had my childrens picture all of their contact information email addresses student ID numbers my information our addressppRELATED CCSD cybersecurity incident leaves many students without classes sparks concerns over data safetyppppThe email was sent from an address with the domain CHUSD which happens to be the domain of a school district in CaliforniappIm worried that our address was leaked said Hecht Anybody that gets that information could just show up at my doorppNews 3 spoke with the superintendent of the CoalingaHuron Unified School District who says she had not heard about the emails until our callppShe says she is very concerned and is getting her team to look into itppShe says it looks like the email is from a student email address but that its not believed that the student was the person who sent the emailppAs we wait to learn more from them News 3 reached out to CCSD through email and by phoneppCCSD representatives say the most recent information they can provide is the statement from Monday that said in part ppIts a similar response CCSD gave Tuesday when News 3 emailed twice asking about how many students and staff were impacted by the cyber security incident what information may have been compromised and what is being done to address itppNow the question is was the email Hecht and other families received Wednesday morning related to the cyber incident that happened in early OctoberppI do think that CCSD needs to tell us whats going on said Hecht Because were not were not getting answers Were all left in the darkppCCSD parent and cyber security expert Tim Timrawi says while the district figures out what led to the cyber security incident he believes CCSD hasnt done all it can to protect private informationppHe cited information he found on public websites regarding the Microsoft Exchange Server that is used to communicate emails back and forthppSaying that the software release date of Microsoft Exchange for this server is March 14 2023 he said pointing to the information on a public site saying that that was the last update done to that serverppTimrawi says there were several updates available since then that CCSD didnt doppHe believes the district is dropping the ball when it comes to student securityppOur kids are very important to us said Timrawi They need to be taking security very seriously Between convenience and security security is far more important when it comes to our kids informationppCCSD extended the deadline for staff to change their passwords as a response to the cyber security incident to 5 pm WednesdayppNews 3 will continue reaching out to the district until we get more answers on the incident and what this means for CCSD staff and familiesppReach out to the Crisis in the Classroom tip line about issues important to you in our schools Email schooltipsnews3lvcom or call 7028050489p
