JACKSON COUNTY, MI -- A potential cybercrime is causing classes to be cut to a half day in East Jackson Community Schools on Tuesday, Sept. 12, officials said.
The incident currently is under investigation by the Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety. School officials learned of the potential cybercrime Tuesday morning, Superintendent Steve Doerr said.
In cooperation with the investigation, all East Jackson Community Schools buildings are being reduced to a half day, Doerr said. East Jackson Secondary School students are being dismissed at noon, with East Jackson Elementary School dismissing at 1 p.m.
All athletic practices are canceled on Tuesday, as well.
There currently is no threat to students and staff and the district is just accelerating its daily schedule to aid in the police investigation, Doerr said.
There is no evidence that any type of data breach has taken place, Doerr said.
Doerr said the district intends to continue with its normal daily schedule when students and staff return Wednesday, Sept. 13.
No further information about the investigation has been released.
