IntelliHartx, Inc. Notifies 489k Patients of Data Breach Following an Incident at Third-Party Vendor, Fortra

On June 8, 2023, IntelliHartx, LLC (“ITx”) filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Maine after learning that its secure file transfer protocol provider, Fortra, experienced a data privacy event leaking information provided to ITx. Based on the company’s official filing, the incident resulted in an unauthorized party gaining access to consumers’ names, Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth and protected health information. After confirming that consumer data was leaked, ITx began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals who were impacted by the recent data security incident.

What We Know So Far About the IntelliHartx Breach
News of the IntelliHartx data breach is still fresh; however, what we know at this point comes from the company’s filing with the Attorney General of Maine. According to this source, on February 2, 2023, ITx learned that Fortra had experienced a data security incident related to a zero-day vulnerability in its GoAnywhere managed file transfer product. In response, ITx launched an investigation to learn more about the incident. Part of this process involved reviewing all the compromised data, which was provided to ITX by Fortra.

On March 24, 2023, ITx completed its initial review of the data. However, at this point, Fortra provided ITx with additional information, prompting ITx to engage in further review, which was completed on May 19, 2023. The ITx investigation confirmed that the Fortra breach resulted in confidential ITx patient information being compromised.

Upon discovering that sensitive consumer data was made available to an unauthorized party, IntelliHartx began to review the affected files to determine what information was compromised and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, address, date of birth and protected health information.

On June 8, 2023, IntelliHartx sent out data breach letters to all individuals whose information was compromised as a result of the recent data security incident.
