Nuno Perry, Director of Cybersecurity Services for the Regional Government, said today that the cyberattack against the SESARAM computer system was the largest, in terms of scope and impact, recorded in the health sector in the Region.
For this reason, and based on other attacks that have already taken place, the person in charge predicts that the recovery of the system will be slow.
“It's not something that can be resolved in a day,” he asserted.
However, with regard to clinical records, Nuno Perry stated that, so far, there is no evidence that these have been compromised, but admits the possibility that other data, namely personal data, have been the target of infiltration and exploitation, which may have started before the attack was detected.
He further advanced that the attack was claimed by a company, but the director of the regional government's cybersecurity services did not advance which entity in question, since the investigation is ongoing, which will determine the veracity of the origin of the attack. However, there was no ransom demand.
The person in charge asked the population to be attentive to emails and SMS received on behalf of SESARAM, asking for caution.
Filipa Freitas, vice-president of the Board of Directors of SESARAM, revealed that a parallel system is being prepared.
Until it is ready, several services will continue to operate on paper, with specialties continuing to operate even in terms of their non-urgent clinical activity, as is the case with health centers and oncology.
