In response to a requested update, CCH posted one Thursday on its website and social-media channels, indicating many of its services are now back to expected activity volumes and it’s resumed its standard approach to victim care. The statement specifically mentions resumption of typical activities in the emergency, inpatient, and surgical departments.

Delays in patient access to some areas, specifically diagnostic imaging (X-Rays, CT scans, MRIs, ultrasounds), continue. The hospital’s statement said improvements in access to those services is expected within the next week. Some support functions, such as payroll and staff scheduling are still being done via alternative solutions.

In its initial acknowledgement of the cyber incident in April, CCH said its electronic patient records were not affected, however the disruption meant they could not be accessed by patients and their families through the MyChart portal. It also limited access to this information from within CCH’s internal computer network.

CCH has not identified, either in its initial statements last month or on Thursday, what type of cyber incident it suffered. It was asked in April whether the incident was a so-called ransomware attack, but did not respond to the question.

CCH is not the only health-care institution or service to recently be hit by a cyber incident. The Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa experienced one in late-April tied to a flaw in the software used within the facility that saw patient information temporarily stored in an insecure environment.

A cyber incident also impacted paramedic services across the region last year, when access to the electronic records system was affected.

The hospital said further updates would be posted to its website at www.cornwallhospital.ca.
