Saint-Pierre hospital in central Brussels had to temporarily close its emergency room on Saturday and divert line 112 to other institutions due to a cyberattack, the healthcare facility said in a statement. Both the emergency room and the telephone line were operational again at the start of the evening.
The computer attack caused a widespread outage in the early hours of Saturday. It undermined the entire functioning of many applications, including patient records and telephone lines, which remained inaccessible for a time, explain the officials of the CHU.
No leaks noted at this stage
Patients have not had to suffer any consequences from this situation and the hospital has not observed, at this stage, any leak or theft of data.
Around 5:00 p.m., most of the blocked apps were functional again.
Hospital officials said they were " cautious about the possible evolution ". An in-depth technical investigation is underway with the help of the specialized federal police.
