San Andreas Regional Center agreed to a class action settlement to resolve claims surrounding a 2021 data breach.
The settlement benefits consumers who received a notice from San Andreas Region Center informing them their information may have been compromised in the 2021 data breach.
According to plaintiffs in a data breach class action lawsuit, San Andreas Regional Center failed to protect consumer data through reasonable cybersecurity measures. As a result of the center’s negligence, the class action contends that consumers now face the risk of fraud and other data misuse.
The San Andreas Regional Center is a medical system with locations in Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Benito and Monterey. The center offers specialized services to disabled individuals.
San Andreas Regional Center hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve these allegations.
Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive reimbursement of up to $500 for ordinary expenses and $2,500 for extraordinary expenses. Ordinary expenses covered by the settlement include bank fees, communication charges, credit expenses and up to three hours of lost time reimbursed at a rate of $20 per hour. Extraordinary expenses include unreimbursed monetary losses resulting from fraud or identity theft.
All claimed expenses must be documented to qualify for reimbursement.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is March 13, 2023.
