State governments have begun announcing special changes to allow people exposed in the Optus data leak to get new driver's licences as soon as possible.
Among the details accessed by the hacker are driver's licence numbers, which are commonly used to verify someone's identity.
NSW Customer Services Minister Victor Dominello said people in the state can get a new digital driver's licence issued instantly via the Service NSW app.

"People are understandably stressed and need a pathway forward."

The new licence will cost users $29, with "reimbursement advice will be issued by Optus to customers in the coming days".
In Queensland, new licences with new numbers will be issued free of charge.
Roads Minister Mark Bailey said Queenslanders will need to visit a Customer Service Centre to get the new licence.
"An Optus data breach notice or written notification from an enforcement authority is required, along with evidence of identity for the new licence," Bailey said.

"Thanks for your patience as we worked on this resolution."
In Victoria, the situation is more complicated.
"Anyone who has been notified by Optus that their licence details have been involved in the breach can contact VicRoads to have from tomorrow to have their Victorian driver licence record flagged," a statement from VicRoads said.
"By flagging records the Department of Transport will prevent any unauthorised changes or access to individual information through the Victorian licence database.
"Records will also be flagged within the national database."

Those affected can request a replacement, but multiple points of verification will be needed.
In Western Australia new driver's licence cards with new licence numbers will be issued to those who have been informed by Optus that their driver's licence information has been compromised as part of the breach.

Those impacted will need to attend a DoT transport service centre or regional agent to apply for a new driver's licence number and replacement licence card using the Application for New Licence Number (E126) form.
The customer will not be charged by the DoT for the new licence. The State Government will be billing Optus for the cost of these licence replacements.
In South Australia, you can replace a driver's licence online with a mySAGOV account. The government will waive the $20 replacement fee for any South Australians affected by the breach.
The Northern Territory government has fees to replace licences in some situations but not in others. It has not addressed what will happen with this data breach.
The Tasmanian government has also not spoken about the issue as yet.
Under current rules in the ACT, anyone can replace a licence online if they make a declaration and know their address, existing licence number and date of birth.
All those details have been exposed in the Optus hack.

Meanwhile, the Coalition tonight called on the federal government to waive the fees for and expedite the processing of new passports for customers affected by the data breach.
A new passport always comes with a new number, reducing the risk for Optus customers who had their passport numbers stolen, but the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade says anyone affected by the breach will have to pay the full fee for a new one.
Australian passports cost between $155 and $308, while priority processing adds a further $225 to that bill.
