QUINCY, Ill. (KHQA) — Some residents of Quincy may have had their personal information compromised when the city was hit by a cybersecurity attack earlier this year.

The city said the information exposed could include names, addresses, dates of birth, driver’s licenses, Social Security numbers or state issued identification numbers, military identification numbers, and health insurance information.

Through an investigation, the city learned the cybersattack accessed certain city computer systems between April 27, 2022, and May 7, 2022, and acquired a limited number of files stored on those systems. The city reviewed the affected files to determine whether any personal information was present and therefore accessible. The review was finalized on September 7, 2022.

In accordance with legal obligations, Quincy is sending direct notice of the incident through the U.S. Mail to residents who have complete address information on file. The city has also posted the information on its website and alerted the media.

People concerned they might have been impacted by the security breach, should remain vigilant against incidents of identity theft and fraud by reviewing account statements and credit reports for suspicious activity.

There is no evidence that identity theft or fraud occurred as a result of this incident, according to the city.

The city’s municipal operations are fully functional at this time.

For those with additional questions, call the city's dedicated toll-free assistance line at (855) 662-8108 or visit the city's website.
