RED BLUFF — An investigation is underway to determine what disrupted the Tehama County Department of Social Services computer network on April 9.
It appeared the scope of the incident is limited to social services and is not impacting other county departments, according to a press release issued Thursday by the county. The social services IT network is separate from the other county departments’ IT environments.
When the county learned of the incident, the department’s IT systems were taken offline out of caution. An investigation was then launched with the help of a third-party forensic firm and state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies were notified as well.
The county is approaching the incident with the utmost seriousness and is focused on securely restoring access to systems as quickly and as safely as possible, the release said.
If the county determines the incident resulted in unauthorized access to any sensitive information, it will provide notifications to the individuals in accordance with applicable law, the release said.
All stakeholders are being updated on the county’s ongoing investigation.
