A cyber-attack breached the IT system at Arnprior Regional Health (ARH) on Dec. 21.
“Our team noticed unusual activity and acted immediately,” reads a statement on the hospital and nursing home’s website. “We have determined through our investigation that data connected with Arnprior Regional Health has been taken.”
The type of data stolen is under investigation, but the Electronic Health Record system was not breached. The attack hasn’t impacted the delivery of health care or any services, reads the statement, including scheduled surgeries or procedures, community programs or long-term care. The emergency department remains open; delays can be expected.
“We are working with cybersecurity experts who are helping us safely restore our IT services and investigate what happened and whether any sensitive data was exposed,” the statement says. “This process will take some time. If we learn personal information has been exposed, we will notify impacted individuals.”
If the investigation reveals personal information was affected, those individuals will be contacted directly.

ARH has not responded the Metroland’s requests to learn if the attacker or attackers still have access to the system, who they are, where the attack originated, and if they made contact with ARH.
“We recognize the concern this may cause; please be assured that we are taking all necessary measures to resolve this matter,” reads the statement. “As an organization, we take cyber security very seriously and have numerous measures in place to protect our data.”
Residents are asked to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities. Tips and resources for protecting your identity are available at www.priv.gc.ca/en/privacy-topics/identities/identity-theft/guide_idt.
