Baltimore County Police Officer charged with trying to stealing dead woman's identity

BALTIMORE (WBFF) - A Baltimore County police officer has been indicted on charges of trying to steal the identity of a dead woman whose house he was dispatched to.

Police said Deandre Ross, who has been suspended without pay, allegedly was sent to the victim's house on March 16, according to a press release.

He was sent there for a call of a sudden death. The victim's family members then filed a theft report for a missing laptop.

Ross has been indicted on multiple charges of theft, as well as misconduct in office. He is being held without bond, pending a bail review hearing.

Police Chief Melissa Hyatt said in a statement:

Following a criminal investigation by our detectives and an indictment by a Baltimore County grand jury, a Baltimore County police officer was arrested, charged, and suspended without pay for allegations involving theft. We will work closely with the Baltimore County State’s Attorney throughout the criminal proceedings as we do in every criminal investigation. This incident is by no means representative of the fine work that your Baltimore County police officers perform on a daily basis.
