Ransomware attackers have targeted New Zealand’s largest volunteer agency working in international development.
On Wednesday Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA) announced it had been the victim of a “sophisticated” ransomware attack. Last week Waikato District Health Board was brought to its knees by another attack.
Chief executive Stephen Goodman said the non-governmental organisationwas hit last week, with attackers locking its computer systems and demanding a ransom.
“What we’re dealing with here is someone has encrypted our information.”
VSA had no intention of paying, he said.
