TIGERTON, Wis. (WLUK) -- A sophisticated ransomware attack limited the Tigerton School District's ability to access certain systems.

Superintendent Kelley Strike provided the update in an email to FOX 11 on Tuesday. The update comes one day after students returned to the classroom following a five-day weekend over a computer network disruption.

The district does not believe it was specifically targeted and confirms the attack is unrelated to recent ones that have happened nationwide. The district has not and will not negotiate with the group that caused the disruption.

The incident, which remains under investigation, has been reported to federal law enforcement. If the investigation finds that students or employees were impacted, the district will notify them as required, Strike says.

Although some troubleshooting remains, the district hopes the rest of the school year will be as normal as can be.
