Cyber attack on the pharmaceutical company Zambon
Unauthorized computer access to one of the offices abroad was detected, directed against a branch of the group. The attack was identified and promptly isolated from Zambon's information systems, which as a precaution suspended activities in the Vicenza plant in which 217 people work.
The company reassures that everything has been resolved without damage or repercussions on the employees' activities. The stop was necessary to allow the IT department of the company to carry out all the necessary checks.
The Vicenza plant, inaugurated in 1946 and expanded in 2013 with an investment of 40 million euros, is the one dedicated to the production lines of liquids, solids and injectables in the "geography" of the group. It is a plant characterized by very high technology, in fact it is part of Industry 4.0.
Each process is "digitally governed". It is therefore understandable that there may be repercussions on the entire production line. It is a very innovative company with an innovation-oriented approach.
Industries under attack
For some time, the big Italian industries have been in the sights of online pirates . A huge cyber attack from China hit many industrial companies a month ago, exploiting a bug on a widely used management software. The victims are also companies in the health sector, hit hard in the last year marked by the pandemic.
Italy is in the top 10 of the nations most affected by cybercriminals. Attacks on small and large companies have grown exponentially in recent months. This often happens due to lack of information and underestimating the risks of poor information systems security.
It is not uncommon for hackers to act with computer viruses , demanding ransoms to remove them. In the case of pharmaceutical companies, the concern is with intellectual property, especially as regards the confidentiality of patents.
Attacks on companies have also increased in 2020 with agile work. However, the health emergency has led to an increase in investments in technologies and employee awareness regarding security and data protection . Unfortunately, many companies still underestimate this risk and many deny the presence of these attacks to avoid reputational damage.

Hacker attacks: what they are
A hacker attack can be defined as a hostile activity against a system, application or tool that has a computer component. Those who carry out the attack, in groups or alone, are called hackers.
Most attacks exploit weaknesses in computer systems or act through emails containing malicious links. They are often used to steal sensitive data or to get a ransom.
