ALBANY, N.Y. – The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles is alerting consumers after several New Yorkers reported receiving phishing texts asking for personal information.
DMV officials say the texts tell recipients to update driver license contact information, and lead to a fake DMV website.
Residents are advised to delete these texts and not click the link or provide any personal information.
Below are examples of scam texts people have reported:
The state Office of Information Technology Services advises people to keep an eye out for signs of phishing scams, including poor spelling or grammar, threats and suspicious URL links.
Again, no one should ever send personal information via text or to a website they are not familiar with.
